Things we've learnt so far on elective

So this is a self indulgent elective post, mainly because I've had a cracking first week and don't want to forget anything. My placement is ok, am doing anaesthetics which is quite long and fairly boring. I've asked to leave early the last two days and have been allowed so I guess that's fine. I'm here with two friends with two more joining next week. There's other uk students here as well, 5 boys from Bristol and a group from Warwick, so we've being going out with them lots. The England cricket team have been here all week playing St kitts, so we've been watching that lots. Made friends with the Barmy army on the first day as well as all the journalists covering the tour, which has made cricket mad friends jealous! 

Anyway here is a buzz feed style list of Things We've Learnt So Far

1. Try not to encourage weird men on the beach by talking to them on day one, they will only stalk you round the island.
2. Twitter is now an acceptable method of communication with England cricket players and ESPN journos
3. Do not try to fix a broken toilet, you will only pull important sections off yourself and make things worse. 
4. Medical students are apparently not allowed to sit down. Ever. 
5. It's the height of rudeness not to introduce yourself to the CEO of the hospital before starting your placement. Who knew?
6. Chicungunya fever does not turn you into a chicken. 
7. The Barmy Army are the new Cilla Black in setting up medical students from different universities. 
8. Don't go out with Stan or you'll end up "SemCo"
9. If you go skinny dipping don't leave your clothes too close to the sea or they will get claimed by the ocean.
10. Volleyball is a cracking game. 
11. Chicken and beer are dirt cheap. 
12. It's impossible to buy sun cream less than factor 50 anywhere. 
13. Wearing your rucksack over both shoulders whilst at a party is not considered cool. However, just be too drunk to care.
14. American medical students have generally zero chat.
15. It's impossible to not look like a complete dweeb being the only white girls trying to dance in a bar full of locals.
16. FaceTime is a wonderful wonderful invention.
17. The best way to get wifi in your apartment is to hang out on your land lady's lawn stealing hers until she gets so annoyed that she gets a router for you.
18. Back row of the taxi/minibus: most romantic place on the island.
19. Rum punch. Just rum punch. 
20. It's impossible to have Too Much Fun but we're definitely giving it a go.
